Hello Phil,
did you see the report last year, RSPCA I think, that said Staffies and Staffie crosses were the best family dogs?
Wrong of course as The Dawg's Taster wins all contests, always, but a good article.

We have a Black, with a few white spots, Staffie Cross from our local rescue centre and how anyone could not have taken him home is beyond me!

The friendliest, most loving, soppiest, daftest and bounciest dog I have ever known!

Vets also don't recommend tinsel, chocolate, macadamia nuts, Barbies head, whole turkeys or lego bricks.....but I'm sure dogs all over the country disagree judging by what I've taken out of dogs in the past! merry Chrimbo!

Great article. Chocolate poisoning in dogs tends to be rare due to the amount of chocolate that needs to be consumed for it to occur, but it's definitely worth making dog owners aware that it has the potential to happen, especially with Christmas just around the corner.

I work as a veterinary nurse and last Christmas I saw a very poorly labrador who had eaten a ridiculous amount of chocolate out from under the Christmas tree. I don't remember the exact amount (there was a LONG list of individual items) but it was more than enough to poison him. Luckily, the owners had realised the potential danger he was in and brought him straight to us. The poor thing made a full recovery, but spent Christmas day in hospital on a drip, crapping out wrappers and looking miserable. Like I said, it's a rare and extreme circumstance, but it can happen.

It's probably just because of the job I do, but it always winds me up a bit when I hear people saying things like, 'Oh, I give my dog chocolate all the time and I've never had a problem.' Theobromine poisoning aside, chocolate is high in both sugar and fat. Therefore, a dog gets absolutely no benefit from eating chocolate other than the sweet taste, and even then I'm sure they'd prefer something meat-tasting like a rawhide chew or a piece of chicken. Chocolate is not naturally part of a dog's diet. A dog in the wild wouldn't get chocolate, so I don't see why people feel the need to give it to domestic dogs. I guess they like the idea of having a hyperactive lump of lard on the brink of developing diabetes waddling around their house, farting and gasping for breath as it goes.

Rant over.

Several people have commented that the bandana pic looks like a pair of undies. And they are right.
However we have no plans, as yet, to become market leaders in the global Dogs' Underwear market. Watch this space.
