Why is it that people make Valentines Dog Treats? Have Birthday parties for dogs? Celebrate these occasions with doughnuts for dogs, cup cakes for canines? These are for humans, not dogs. Dogs like stuff to eat, anything at all, anything reasonable pleases them, wags the old tail. So why stuff them with human suitable stuff like peanut butter and jelly? Madness.

If you are going to treat your dog, and you should, treat them with something that they like, and which is good for them as dogs. Dawg’s Treat advert over.

In dodgy times like this, with weather and politicians and the like, it makes sense to think ahead.
And your planning should include emergency disaster planning for your pets.

But Woah! That snow and what goes with it might not make your dog a happy chum. After the initial excitement, the leaping around, making snowdogs and all, after all that it’s back to walkies, plain vanilla walkies. And the snow is icey, and it’s being gritted, maybe with salt and chemicals. And the poor dogs’ paws start to crack, and chap and hurt like billy-O.

So, please, after you have walked through the snow and are home safe and warm, check your dog’s pads. Wash away any snow and ice, (and grit and chemicals), and dry. And before you go out a thin coating of vaseline rubbed into the pads will really help your dog enjoy the weather.

OK. Crimbo again, with the WARNING!

Please don’t let the dog eat Xmas pudding or Xmas cake: lots of grape things, raisins etc which are defo bad for dogs. You don’t want a sick dog at Xmas and nor does your vet.

Please be sensible: if you are having lots of people over allow the dog a bit of space to escape to, (and don’t just chuck him in the garden), as whilst dogs love parties, they can get overwhelmed.

Now, get ready for a good ‘un. Lovely walks to get rid of that bloated feeling, love and affection from your best friend and not from mad aunty Mabeline and her pet ninja budgies.

Did you know that large black dogs are the least likely to be chosen for rehoming from dog rescue centres? Very sad and must depress them, which is the other sort of black dog: depression.
